Metro billboard worries D.C. prosecutors

WASHINGTON – A billboard inside the Judiciary Square Metro station is getting the attention of prosecutors.

Prospective jurors often use that station to get to D.C. Superior Court.

Among other things, the small billboard says, “You have the right to ‘hang’ the jury with your vote if you cannot agree with other jurors!” and, “Good jurors nullify bad laws.”

The Washington Post reports the sign contains the name and Web address of the Fully Informed Jury Association. The group challenges crimes, like gun possession, that it contends are “victimless.”

The sign was paid for through a fundraising campaign organized by a graphics artist, the Post says, and similar messages have been placed on pillars in the Archives Metro station.

Prosecutors are concerned that prospective jurors could be influenced by the billboard, which has come up in recent cases.
