Mother charged with felony after baby left in hot car dies

WASHINGTON – Two children were left in hot cars alone Friday as the temperatures rose. Then the unthinkable happened. It was just too late to save them and it’s a painful reminder of the potential dangers of summer weather.

An 8-month old baby boy died on Friday after his mother left him in a hot car for about 6 hours. Arlington Police arrested and charged 32-year old Zoraida Magali Conde Hernandez with Felony Child Neglect.

She forgot her son was in his carseat and drove to work only realizing her mistake hours later. When she realized the baby was in the car, she rushed to the INOVA Alexandria Hospital where he was unresponsive and later pronounced dead.

Hernandez is being held without bond. If convicted, she could serve up to 10 years in prison.

In Baltimore County on the same day, a 16-month-old girl was also found dead in a pickup truck while a family member slept. No charges have been filed in that case.
