WASHINGTON - Billions of packages will be delivered to homes across the country during this holiday season, with customers expecting them to arrive safely.

But one man was caught on tape stealing packages from a home in Columbia, Md.

On Nov. 28, UPS made a delivery to a house on the 6200 block of Tamar Drive around 2:40 p.m. Moments later, the home security system shows a stolen green Subaru station wagon pull into the driveway.

A white male with short hair wearing shorts and a hooded sweatshirt got out of the car and took the packages that were lying on the doorstep.

Howard County Police are still looking for the thief.

If area residents believe a package has been stolen:

  • Ask neighbors. The items might have been delivered to the wrong address.
  • Check alternate entrances, like a back door or side porch.
  • Call the police.

To prevent thefts:

  • Track shipments online and try to be home when they are scheduled to arrive.
  • If being home during delivery is not possible, have the packages delivered to a workplace or a neighbor.
  • Call 911 if you see anything suspicious.
