Bethesda ad agency renames itself RG3

WASHINGTON - Some proud Redskins fans wore their jerseys to work. Others maybe changed their Facebook status.

That's nothin' compared to what a local ad agency did.

Formerly known as "RP3," a Bethesda ad agency changed its name to "RG3" in honor of the Redskins' first-round draft pick, Robert Griffin III.

When the agency formed in 2009, its three partners chose "RP3" because it evolved from the Rosenthal Partners firm. After watching the NFL draft Thursday night, they decided to revisit the reason for their name.

"After all, what does the ‘P' stand for anyway?" asked Creative Director Jim Lansbury. "Partners. Duh. We're partners. That doesn't have nearly the meaning for us, our employees and our clients as RG3."

President Beth Johnson says they are excited Redskins fans ... maybe a little too excited?

"Sure, maybe it's a little impulsive. But we're committed and we've been committed to the team since day one."

In addition to the firm's burgundy and gold logo, its allegiance to the team extends to its employees. RG3's account director, Tiffany Bacon, is a former Redskins cheerleader.

"I'd be lying if I said I wasn't thrilled. I'm teaching the entire agency every move of ‘Hail to the Redskins," Bacon says.

So far, RG3 the quarterback has not responded to the firm's name change.
