Police: Wednesday night mugging latest in string of incidents

WASHINGTON — An armed robbery in upper Northwest on Wednesday night is the latest in a string of violent incidents in the area.

Police say a mugging was perpetrated by a single offender in Chevy Chase on Wednesday night, but a team of armed robbers has accosted as many as ten people in the area since December — most commonly taking wallets, money and phones.

In Montgomery County, as many as 50 homes have been burglarized in recent months, police say.

Police say incidents such as these are preventable if residents are watchful and report suspicious activity to them.

“No harm, no foul, there’s nothing wrong with calling us and having us come out,” says Montgomery County Police Chief David Falcinelli. “Be our eyes and our ears, because we cannot be everywhere at all times.”
