Atlanta hospital now treating American aid worker with Ebola

ATLANTA (AP) — A doctor at an Atlanta hospital says it’s a good sign that an aid worker with the Ebola virus was able to walk from an ambulance into the hospital today, after arriving in the Atlanta area aboard a specially-equipped plane.

Hospital officials haven’t released the patient’s identity. But the World Health Organization has said a doctor who was working in an Ebola treatment center in Sierra Leone tested positive for the disease.

At Emory University Hospital, Dr. Aneesh Mehta (ah-NEESH’ MEH’-tah) says the medical team will evaluate the patient’s overall health and consider all treatment options.

Last month, two U.S. workers who contracted Ebola in Liberia were treated successfully at Emory.

Mehta says the special isolation unit where the patient will be treated can hold up to three people, and the capacity can be increased if needed.
