Catch a wave to a better body with simulated surfing

WASHINGTON – Simulated surfing may just be the next big workout at your health club.

The RipSurfer is a machine that simulates the feel of riding the waves. It is a real surfboard mounted on inflatable medicine balls.

The machine provides a surf-like workout. Users can practice paddling, pushing-up and grinding, complete with surf songs and big screen pictures of surfers in the background.

SurfSet Fitness plans to sell them for home use next month for $765.

Until then, the company has been hauling the machine from one health club to another for demonstrations.

They’ve held classes in several cities, including Boston and New York.
