BOWIE, Md. (AP) — Republican candidate for governor Larry Hogan says he won’t make his tax returns public, if his opponent doesn’t.
Hogan said Saturday at a festival in Bowie he probably would have released his tax returns for review simultaneously with his Democratic opponent, Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown.
But Brown declined to release his returns when asked on Friday at a forum in Towson. Brown says he believes 16 years of financial disclosure forms he has released as lieutenant governor and a state delegate provide sufficient information on his finances for Maryland voters.
Hogan says he certainly won’t release his returns if Brown doesn’t.
Candidates are not required by law to make their tax returns public, though it’s not uncommon for candidates in other states to release at least some of their returns.
