WASHINGTON - Two women have been arrested and are accused of assaulting and abusing children at a Woodbridge, Va. child-care center.
Prince William County police arrested Kierra Nicole Spriggs, 24, of the 2000 block of Swift Stream Court in Woodbridge and Sarah A Jordan, 29, of the 12000 block of Kempston Lane in Woodbridge on Friday.
Spriggs and Jordan are both employees at the Minnieland Academy at The Glen in Woodbridge where reports surfaced on Nov. 7 that employees were abusing the children in their care.
More allegations surfaced later against staffers at the Minnieland at the Lorton Station location.
A report by the Virginia Department of Social Services found two teachers at the Woodbridge location routinely engaged in cruel treatment of toddlers in their care, including stepping on their toes and giving full pressure sprays from a water hose.
Police say the abuse occurred between January and August of this year, when the employees assaulted and abused at least three children, who are between the ages of 1 and 2.
InsideNova.com first reported two weeks ago that a classroom of toddlers at the Minnieland center near Lake Ridge were abused physically and emotionally for nearly six months.
Spriggs and Jordan have each been charged with two counts of cruelty or injury to a child and two counts of assault and battery.
A court date has not been set for either woman.
