WASHINGTON — Some Verizon customers in the southwest part of Alexandria may be without phone and/or Internet service due to two severed underground copper cables. A contractor, not working for Verizon, apparently was taking soil samples and has bored completely through the cables.
Verizon crews have been onsite to locate and assess the damage; dig up and replace the damaged cable; and resplice the copper lines that will restore service to affected customers.
Verizon says full restoration may take several days.
