Shuler Hensley will be the Grinch this Christmas

NEW YORK (AP) — This Christmas season, the Grinch has a Tony Award.

Shuler Hensley has been named the green, hairy, anti-holiday creature in “Dr. Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical” at The Theater at Madison Square Garden. The show runs from Dec. 5-28.

Based on the classic Theodor Geisel tale, the musical by of Mel Marvin and Timothy Mason tells the story of the Grinch’s Christmas conversion after he tries to steal the holiday spirit from the residents of Whoville.

Hensley’s Broadway credits include “No Man’s Land,” ”Waiting for Godot,” ”Tarzan” and “Young Frankenstein.” He won a Tony for playing Jud in the 2002 Broadway revival of “Oklahoma!”

The new “Grinch” will be directed by Matt August.
