Ades ‘Exterminating Angel’ postponed until 2016

NEW YORK (AP) — The world premiere of Thomas Ades’ “The Exterminating Angel” at the Salzburg Festival in Austria has been postponed a year until the summer of 2016.

The festival announced the commission of the opera in 2011 but didn’t include it in its 2015 schedule, which was announced Thursday.

“The Exterminating Angel,” based on Luis Bunuel’s film, is scheduled to be produced at London’s Royal Opera in spring 2017 and at New York’s Metropolitan Opera in fall 2017.

This will be Ades’ third opera, following “Powder Her Face” and “The Tempest.”
