Most of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park reopened

HAWAII VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK, Hawaii (AP) — Most of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park has reopened after it was closed as a precaution because of an approaching hurricane.

Officials closed the park Friday in anticipation of Hurricane Ana.

Parts of it re-opened Saturday. By Sunday, most of the park was open.

Park officials say the Kahuku Unit remains closed. It’s the southernmost point of the park in the Kau district, which got heavy rains as the storm passed.

Mauna Loa Road also remains closed because of downed trees.

Park rangers didn’t find any significant damage from Hurricane Ana.
