Coast Guard Cutter Bear returning to Va.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (AP) — The Coast Guard Cutter Bear is returning to Virginia.

The Coast Guard says the ship will return to its base in Portsmouth on Friday.

The ship had been on a two-month patrol in the Caribbean Sea. Earlier this month, the ship seized more than $23 million worth of cocaine from a cargo vessel northeast of Panama in international waters.

In August, a helicopter crew from the Bear and a boarding team helped stop and later destroy a speed boat that was smuggling 32 bales of cocaine north of the Gulf of Uraba.
