ROANOKE, Va. (AP) — A chemical distribution company in Roanoke is being ordered to pay more than $600,000 in fines for violating state and federal hazardous waste storage regulations.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency says the penalty was issued against Chem-Solv Inc. and Austin Holdings-VA L.L.C. following a five-day hearing.
The facility in Roanoke handles and distributes various chemicals, including alcohols, acids, caustics, mineral oils, surfactants, glycols and solvents.
The EPA says the owner and operator of the facility violated laws law governing the treatment, storage and disposal of hazardous waste.
An administrative law judge upheld nearly all of the EPA’s proposed penalty and ruled the companies must comply with an EPA order to cease unpermitted storage of hazardous waste and perform waste analyses.
