Richmond Jail to continue Mother’s Day program

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — The Richmond City Jail is continuing a tradition of allowing a group of female inmates to visit with their children on Mother’s Day.

Sheriff C.T. Woody Jr. says participants in the sixth annual program are mothers who have been separated from their children for at least a month. He says some who qualified for Sunday’s one-hour visitation participate in jail educational and re-entry programs.

Woody says the program encourages the inmates and families to maintain close ties and gain hope and motivation from loved ones.
