WASHINGTON – The popular Capital Bikeshare program is further expanding in Virginia.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held on Thursday, March 28 to open the latest station at the Walter Reed Community Center in Arlington. It will be the 200th station in the bike sharing system to open.
A plan is in place for 33 stations to be up and running in Arlington County this year and in the Columbia Pike and Shirlington areas. There is a complete map of the new locations.
It’s a further expansion of the program in the county and part of its Transit Development Plan. The plan outlines proposals to expand the program in Arlington County through 2018, according to a county report.
Last year, the focus was on the Rossyln-Ballston area where 30 new stations were added.
According to Capital Bikeshare, nearly 1,700 bikes operate at more than 175 stations in the District, Arlington County and the City of Alexandria. And there are plans to expand the service to Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties in Maryland.
