The long rumored H Street NE Whole Foods location is a rumor no more.
The grocer has signed a lease to occupy a 38,000-square-foot space at 600 H St. NE. It is the second D.C. lease Whole Foods has signed in two weeks, the first being WC Smith’s 800 New Jersey Ave. SE.
The H Street store, the sixth either open or planned for the District, is expected to open in late 2016.

During Mayor Vincent Gray's weekly press briefing Wednesday, where Allshouse formally announced Whole Foods' H Street plans, he also suggested Walter Reed is in company's future, "Rumor has it that Whole Foods might be interested in putting a store in that area, so who knows." Hines and Urban Atlantic were chosen Tuesday to redevelop the shuttered Army Medical Center campus.
The H Street Whole Foods will be part of Insight Property Group’s mixed-use project on the former Murry’s site. The development will also include 430 residential units, nearly 40,000 additional square feet of retail, green roofs, rooftop garden plots and two below-grade levels of parking.
“It will create a gathering place and a retail anchor at the heart of the community for years to come,” Richard Hausler, Insight principal, said in a release. “That’s what ‘five-minute living’ means – walking distance to everything.
