WASHINGTON – Medical marijuana sales are under way in the District and the city has a pot-selling proposal that is the first of its kind in the nation.
D.C. marijuana dispensaries are being asked by the city to subsidize discounts for poor patients purchasing pot.
The Washington Times reports prices for marijuana at D.C. dispensaries range from $380 to $440 an ounce.
Under a proposed regulation published in the D.C. Register, D.C.’s medical marijuana dispensaries would be required to discount their pot 20 percent for poor patients, by setting aside 2 percent of their profits.
No other medical marijuana clinics in the nation are required to make such an accommodation. In other states, discounts are funded by the state government, not the dispensary operators.
The proposed rule is in the midst of a 30-day review.
