Washington, D.C. – WTOP has won a Regional Edward R. Murrow Award this week from the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA).
The WTOP newsroom as a whole was recognized in the Breaking News Category for its coverage of the Roe V. Wade decision and ensuing reaction around the major ruling that upset previous precedent on the case established in 1973.
“This award is one that we really won as team for our collective work as journalists committed to making a difference in our community,” said Julia Ziegler, WTOP’s Director of News and Programming. “We are so honored to be recognized with this regional Edward R. Murrow award.”
The RTDNA first established the Murrow awards in 1971 to pay tribute to Edward R. Murrow and his many journalism accomplishments. Annually presented by the RTDNA, the Edward R. Murrow Awards recognize outstanding achievements in journalism on the regional and national level.
WTOP now advances to the national round of the competition where it will compete against regional winners from across the country.
