Washington, D.C. (June 23, 2020) – In the wake of the tragic killing of George Floyd and renewed calls for meaningful change and racial equality in America, WTOP News has released a new podcast, “Colors: A Dialogue on Race in America.”
The podcast, hosted by longtime WTOP National Security Correspondent JJ Green and former WTOP contributor and creator of “Core Values,” Chris Core, aims to provide a frank discussion around race relations in the United States.
Each week, JJ and Chris – a black man and a white man who have known each other for 30 years – will engage in raw, real, honest and, sometimes, uncomfortable conversations about race. JJ and Chris will also invite guests to offer their knowledge and opinions on issues, and give listeners an opportunity to ask questions in a safe place.
“This is a pivotal moment in America’s history. We’ve had them before but failed to fully address the festering problem of racism,” said Green. “From my perspective, meaningful, respectful dialogue that leads to decisive, positive changes for all is the only way to do that. I’m hopeful ‘Colors’ will spur others to do that.”
The podcast is a “revival” of a similar radio show the pair piloted in 1993 called “Black and White.” At the time, JJ and Chris were colleagues at WMAL Radio. Their show debuted in the aftermath of the savage beating of Rodney King by Los Angeles police officers.
“If JJ and I can light even a little candle of better understanding it will be worth the effort,” said Core on the new show.
Subscribe to the podcast today on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and Google Podcasts. The podcast can also be found on WTOP.com and PodcastOne.
