Washington, D.C. – WTOP is proud to announce it has been honored with five Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards from the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA), including the prestigious Overall Excellence award. WTOP was also honored with six Chesapeake AP Broadcasters Association awards.
In addition to the award for Overall Excellence, WTOP also earned regional Murrow Awards in Breaking News Coverage, Newscast and two individual reporting categories. These honors celebrate the station’s commitment to delivering trusted, timely and impactful journalism across radio and digital platforms.
WTOP took home the award for Best Website and Best Newscast from the Chesapeake AP Broadcasters Association, along with individual reporter awards for Outstanding Series, Outstanding Commentary, Outstanding Sports Feature and Best Digital-First Storytelling.
“This recognition reflects the extraordinary work our newsroom does every single day to serve our community,” said Julia Ziegler, Director of News and Programming at WTOP. “These 11 awards are a testament to the passion, talent and journalistic integrity of our entire team.”

Annually presented by the RTDNA, the Edward R. Murrow Awards recognize outstanding achievements in journalism on the regional and national levels. WTOP now advances to the national round of the competition where it will compete against regional winners from across the country. The national winners will be announced later this summer.
