Hubbard Radio launches PodcastDC mobile app
The app’s mission is to connect listeners across the region with local D.C. podcasts
Washington, D.C. – March 8, 2021 – Today, Hubbard Radio announced the official launch of PodcastDC, a new podcast app built specifically for Washington D.C. The new mobile app, which soft launched in February, showcases podcasts that feature voices, topics and stories all rooted in Washington D.C.
The goal of the app is to give Washingtonians, and people who want to stay connected to Washington D.C., an easy place to find local content. “In a world with 800,000 podcasts available, it’s easy to understand how local can get lost,” Hubbard Radio’s VP of Digital Strategy Jeremy Sinon said. “If your main source of discovery for podcasts is one of the big podcast apps, you would have a hard time knowing that local content even exists. We’re trying to solve that problem by giving Washingtonians an app that is dedicated to serving them audio that caters to their local interests.”
Users will see hundreds of podcast offerings covering local sports across the region, as well as podcasts for Feds, D.C. True Crime stories and so much more. There are podcasts from D.C. based radio stations, TV stations, newspapers, businesses, universities and beyond.
The new app is also aimed at making locally produced audio more discoverable and more profitable for its creators. Users will find hundreds of podcasts from independent local content creators like Podcast DC’s own Marketing Strategist Elly Rowe who also produces and hosts the podcast Women-Owned Wednesday By Elly Jane highlighting local female entrepreneurs, artists, creators and more. “The sheer number of podcasts and audio content available makes it hard to stand out on a more local level,” Rowe said. “PodcastDC creates an excellent opportunity to help highlight independent D.C. podcasters with content that is not only relevant to local listeners but also deserves more national attention.”
PodcastDC will also offer rewards aimed at supporting local businesses for listeners on the app. “PodcastDC users will have the chance to win prizes each month,” WTOP’s Director of News and Programming Julia Ziegler said. “Our promise to our listening community is that our prizing will be consistent with the PodcastDC mission to bring you great local content. In that same vein, our prizes will always support the D.C. based businesses that are an integral part of our community. This gives us the ability to not only incentivize listeners to listen local, but gives our great local partners ways to participate and put their product in front of local consumers.”
While Washingtonians continue to stay distanced for the time being, PodcastDC hopes to keep them connected to the stories and people all around them. PodcastDC is available to download in the Apple and Google Play stores. More information can be found at podcastdc.com.
