November Charity of the Month 2025

The WTOP Charity of the Month for November is New Futures

Who We Serve:

New Futures is on track to serve 200+ young people in 2025.

A snapshot of our current Scholars:

  • 100% come from households earning less than 80% of the Area Median Income
  • 96% identify as Black, Latinx, or Asian; 62% are immigrant
  • 90% are the first in their family to attend a postsecondary institution

Why We Serve:

The DC area has some of the greatest income disparities in the country among demographic groups. Our program puts Scholars on a path to in-demand careers that lead to financial security.

Support Us:

This GivingTuesday, New Futures will launch its Opening Doors to Pathways to Possibility Campaign. We invite you to be a vital part of our next chapter of doing good in the DMV!

New Futures plays a unique role in breaking cycles of inequity and injustice and in changing trajectories for young people in the Washington, DC region.

How do we do it?

We believe firmly that community college can be the best first step toward dream careers and financial security. We pave the way for our future leaders to earn the shorter-term credentials that lead to strong degrees and great jobs more quickly, more affordably, and more flexibly, disrupting the so-called “traditional,” one-size-fits-all approach.

By leveraging community college as a launching point to further education and career, and by opening access to in-demand fields like IT, Construction, and Health Sciences, we partner with our Scholars as they forge their paths to financial security, as they strengthen our communities, and as they take part in a changing workforce.
