August Charity of the Month

The WTOP Charity of the Month for August is the Alzheimer’s Association,
the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer’s care, support and research.

The Alzheimer’s Association is the leading voluntary health organization in
Alzheimer’s care, support and research.

The Alzheimer’s Association 24/7 Helpline (800-272-3900) provides reliable information about Alzheimer’s and dementia; medications and treatment options; skills to provide and/or seek quality care; and legal, financial and living-arrangement decisions. The Association’s online Care Center helps caregivers coordinate assistance from family and friends, locate senior housing, receive customized care recommendations, enhance caregiving skills, and learn ways to keep loved ones with dementia safe.

Free education programs are offered in the community and online.  Support groups and our online community, ALZConnected®, allow people with Alzheimer’s and other dementias, families and caregivers to share experiences, coping skills and tips and find support and friendships with others living with the disease.

The largest non-profit funder of Alzheimer’s research, the Alzheimer’s Association currently is investing over $250 million in 750 active best-of-field projects in 39 countries. Our grants have funded some of the most instrumental research in Alzheimer’s science. Alzheimer’s Association TrialMatch® is a free service that helps people find clinical trials based on personal criteria.

The Alzheimer’s Association is the leading voice for Alzheimer’s disease advocacy, fighting for critical research, prevention and care initiatives at the federal, state and local levels.

More than 6 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease – and more than 11 million family members, friends and others provide their unpaid care. You can make a difference. Volunteer. Advocate. Donate. Get involved today and help create a world without Alzheimer’s!
