WASHINGTON — The University of Virginia student who was seen bloodied on video after an encounter with Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control officers will have all the charges against him dropped.
That video, which went viral, resulted in allegations of racism and debate over use of force by police.
Martese Johnson, 20, was charged with public intoxication and obstruction of justice outside the Trinity Pub in Charlottesville, on March 18.
In a press release, Charlottesville Commonwealths Attorney Dave Chapman also said that the evidence did not warrant criminal charges against the ABC officers involved in the arrest.
The charges are expected to be officially dropped at a court hearing on Friday. The city also plans to release their findings during a presentation on Wednesday, June 17 in the City Council Chambers in Charlottesville City Hall.
