WASHINGTON — Brr! An Amtrak train pulling into a Rhinecliff, New York, station on Wednesday morning created a tsunami of snow that coated waiting passengers.
Video of the “avalanche” quickly went viral, and a GIF of the train plowing through snow has been viewed more than 4.3 million times on the popular image-sharing site imgur.
Craig Oleszewski, who shot the above video of the waves of snow, told NBC4 in New York that it appeared as though the train overshot the platform by a bit.
A second witness told NBC4 that some commuters were knocked to the ground.
New York City was recently hit by a snow storm that dropped seven inches.
Snow totals to the north and west were far higher, with some areas of New York getting more than 2 feet and 30 inches falling along parts of the New York-Pennsylvania border.
