WASHINGTON — Vice President Joe Biden announced on Wednesday that he will not run for president in 2016.
He made the announcement in the Rose Garden shortly after noon.
Speculation has fluctuated for weeks as to whether the vice president would join the Democratic field, which currently includes former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton; Sen. Bernie Sanders, of Vermont; former Rhode Island senator and governor Lincoln Chafee and former Maryland governor Martin O’Malley.
“I believe we’re out of time” to run a successful campaign, though he added that he “will not be silent” on issues such as income inequality that have played a big role in the campaign.
