The bank, based in Westerly, Rhode Island, said it had earnings of 83 cents per share.
The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 75 cents per share.
The holding company for The Washington Trust Co. posted revenue of $97.3 million in the period. Its revenue net of interest expense was $59.3 million, also topping Street forecasts.
For the year, the company reported profit of $52.2 million, or $2.71 per share. Revenue was reported as $229 million.
