The Bedford, Massachusetts-based company said it had a loss of 31 cents per share.
The medical technology company posted revenue of $40.5 million in the period.
Anika shares have risen 26% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $28.47, a climb of almost 10% in the last 12 months.
