Ultra-low-cost airline Allegiant launches service from Dulles International Airport

Allegiant Air debuted its first flight out of Dulles International Airport on Friday, launching the Las Vegas-based carrier’s new nonstop service to Florida.

The carrier advertises cheaper, leisure-destination flights, including the one from Dulles to Jacksonville International Airport that is now available and the next nonstop flight to Sarasota Bradenton International Airport that will be available Dec. 18.

“As a leisure-focused airline, we believe the area served by IAD presents a great deal of demand for vacation travel from local residents seeking affordable, nonstop flights — as well as a great option for visitors to the D.C. area,” Allegiant Air spokeswoman Hilarie Grey said in an email. 

Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority spokesman Micah Lillard said there currently aren’t any plans for Allegiant to add more destinations from Dulles. The carrier already offers service out of Baltimore/Washington International Airport. As to whether the airline will launch more…
