He helped secure HQ2 and Micron’s $3B expansion. Now the Virginia Economic Development Partnership chief is moving on.

Stephen Moret is leaving his post as president and CEO of the Virginia Economic Development Partnership, where he played a key role in luring Amazon.com Inc.’s second headquarters to the commonwealth, to serve as the new chief of an Indianapolis nonprofit.

Moret, who has led the VEDP since January 2017, will start in January as the new president and CEO of Strada Education Network, a nonprofit that assists students with higher education funding and other support, the VEDP announced Wednesday afternoon.

“Fortunately, my new role at Strada Education Network will enable me to help advance at the national level much of the work we have done together at the state level in Virginia,” Moret said in a statement. “VEDP’s strategic goals and important work will continue next year in close partnership with Governor-elect [Glenn] Youngkin’s administration and the Virginia General Assembly, and I look forward to supporting that work in new ways in my next professional endeavor.”
