D.C. to lift indoor mask mandate in most public places

The District will lift its current mask mandate Nov. 22, removing the requirement for masks to be worn inside most businesses but retaining it for public transportation and some other public settings.

Mayor Muriel Bowser announced Tuesday that private businesses can still enforce a mask requirement, but they will not be bound to do so by D.C. law. Masks will still be required on public transit, in taxi and rideshare vehicles, train stations and airports, as well as in schools, child care facilities, libraries and congregate settings such as the D.C. jail, nursing homes, shelters and dormitories.

City facilities where employees interact with members of the public, including the Department of Motor Vehicles and the Department of Health, will still require masks.
