Republican congressional committee sues event planner over Union Station party canceled due to Covid

The National Republican Congressional Committee is demanding the return of a more than half-million-dollar deposit for an annual event it was forced to cancel due to Covid-19 public health restrictions.

The NRCC, a nonprofit that seeks to get Republicans elected to the House, filed a complaint Tuesday in U.S. District Court for D.C. against Ashley Events LLC alleging the events firm with addresses in Purcellville and Vero Beach, Florida, has refused to repay $545,000 the NRCC paid in three installments leading up to its 2020 Spring Dinner and After Party. The party was to be held April 28, 2020, at Union Station, but the pandemic forced the committee to postpone, and ultimately cancel, due to a prohibition the District imposed in March on large group gatherings.
