Honoree: Monica Modi Dalwadi

Monica Modi Dalwadi’s knack for numbers was apparent from an early age. At an elementary school economics fair, she deduced that her team members had priced their merchandise far too low.

“I tried to convince my group, ‘We’ve got to jack up our prices if we want to win this thing,’” she says. “They wouldn’t listen to me. They were all very, very kind and not the capitalist that I am.”

Dalwadi wasn’t pleased when her team finished in second place, but she did make an important realization. “I knew around the fourth or fifth grade that business was going to be the path that I took,” she says.

Dalwadi joined accounting and consulting firm Baker Tilly in 2004 and became one of the youngest employees to make partner at the firm, which she did while on maternity leave. In 2019, she stepped into the role of managing partner of Baker Tilly’s D.C. office, which boasts more than $103 million in revenue.
