There’s a proverbial storm of activity swirling around Maria Thompson, but you wouldn’t know it by how she leads.
As executive vice president in charge of development and construction for Hoffman & Associates, she helps direct the growth and expansion of its $4.5 billion portfolio of projects, with substantial work taking place at The Wharf and Buzzard Point in particular. Brought aboard in 2015 to oversee day-to-day leadership of the developer’s construction arm, Thompson has overseen as many as 2 million square feet of mixed-use development at a single point, comprising thousands of residential units and hundreds of thousands of office square feet.
Despite such a demanding job, in a male-dominated industry that’s not populated by many people of color, colleagues describe Thompson as diplomatic and approachable, and yet firm, and that combination has served her well as she helped navigate the business through Covid-19.
