Here’s what’s taking over the former Barrel House Liquors space on 14th Street

Foxtrot plans to open a new location near Logan Circle as the Chicago-based gourmet grocery and convenience chain seeks to expand its footprint in Greater Washington.

The company has leased the former Barrel House Liquors space at 1341 14th St. NW. Foxtrot aims to open the new, roughly 2,500-square-foot store in the third quarter of 2022, according to Pat O’Meara, a broker with Rappaport who, along with Bill Dickinson, represented the landlord in the deal. The lease also includes a surface parking lot that the company is considering converting, at least in part, into a farmers market or other outdoor patio use. John Asadoorian of Asadoorian Retail Solutions represented Foxtrot.

Barrel House left the historic 14th Street building with the barrel-shaped facade in 2015 after 20 years, and moved to smaller space next door at 1339 14th. It will get some competition when Foxtrot moves in — wine, beer and other alcoholic beverages are a big part of what the Chicago-based chain sells.
