SEC to leave Union Station area for new NoMa headquarters

The Securities and Exchange Commission will leave its longtime headquarters near Union Station for a new home in NoMa, the General Services Administration announced Thursday.

The GSA, the federal government’s civilian real estate arm, has signed a 1.23 million-square-foot lease with an affiliate of Douglas Development Corp. for a new headquarters to be constructed at 60 New York Ave. NE, adjacent to the Peoples Building at 64 New York and steps from the NoMa-Gallaudet Metro station. Douglas, with partner Midtown Equities, will lead the design, entitlement and construction of the new building.

The 15-year lease for what the GSA calls “Financial Plaza” includes a 10-year extension option. The deal also includes purchase options the GSA can exercise at the end of the initial term or the extension term. Financial details were not immediately available.
