D.C. Central Kitchen unveils plans for huge new headquarters, fundraising campaign

D.C. Central Kitchen is cooking up something big. 

The food assistance and job training nonprofit on Thursday revealed the details of its forthcoming new headquarters and training facility in Southwest D.C., and announced a $35 million fundraising campaign seeded by a $10 million donation from longtime supporter and CoStar Group Inc. (NASDAQ: CSGP) co-founder and chairman Michael Klein. 

The new 36,000-square-foot facility at 2nd and V streets SW in Buzzard Point — which was one of the Washington Business Journal’s Best Real Estate Deals of the Year for 2020 — will be called the Michael R. Klein Center for Jobs and Justice. It will house new production and training kitchens, offices, meeting and event space and the third location of D.C. Central Kitchen’s cafe, a social enterprise business that provides job training to young adults. 

The new home for D.C. Central Kitchen, which currently operates out of the basement of a D.C. shelter, is also receiving support from the District.…
