McDonald’s Corp. (ticker: MCD) sent a tweet Thursday morning unabashedly making fun of President Donald Trump, sending shock waves across the social media platform.
“@realDonaldTrump You are actually a disgusting excuse of a President and we would love to have @BarackObama back, also you have tiny hands,” the tweet from the company’s corporate account reads. The account deleted the tweet shortly after sending it and followed up, saying its “account was compromised.”

Twitter notified us that our account was compromised. We deleted the tweet, secured our account and are now investigating this.

Many Twitter users took screenshots of the tweet to preserve it, predicting the account would delete the tweet quickly. Others just used the opportunity to make jokes and offer context, as is typical on Twitter in instances like these.

Should be pointed out that former Obama press secretary Robert Gibbs is the chief comms guy for $MCD. https://t.co/lz14sl4L5I

Breaking: Trump adds McDonaldland to travel ban.
— Peter Lynn (@Peter_Lynn)
This is hardly the first corporation scandal on social media. Just within the last few months, Cinnabon got into some trouble after tweeting “RIP Carrie Fisher, you’ll always have the best buns in the galaxy” and including a photo that switches out one of Princess Leia’s signature hair rolls for a cinnamon bun. Wendy’s (WEN) sassy Twitter account tweeted out a now political Pepe meme, causing a controversy of its own.
Whoever sent that McDonald’s tweet might be regretting it now. Even though tweets get deleted, screenshots indeed last forever.
