WASHINGTON — South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley has been offered the job of ambassador to the United Nations, according to several media reports.
The Post and Courier reports that Haley has been offered the job by President-elect Donald Trump, while The Washington Post says she’s accepted it.
Haley, 44, the daughter of Indian immigrants, is South Carolina’s first female and first ethnic-minority governor. This would be Haley’s first post in the federal government, The Post and Courier reports.
Haley was critical of several of Trump’s stances during the campaign, particularly his proposed ban on Muslim immigration into the U.S.
The appointment will need to be confirmed by the Senate.
