The Carlyle Group’s David Rubenstein to Host Bloomberg TV Series (CG)

Bloomberg TV will soon have an extra helping of executive insight: David Rubenstein, the founder and co-CEO of one of the world’s biggest private equity firms, The Carlyle Group LP (ticker: CG), will head ” The David Rubenstein Show: Peer-to-Peer Conversations.”

The show will feature the private equity stalwart interviewing high-profile executives of Wall Street, including PepsiCo (PEP) CEO Indra Nooyi and Berkshire Hathaway CEO Warren Buffett.

The first episode features Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) co-founder Bill Gates, which airs at 8 p.m. ET Monday. The episodes will have one-on-one interviews, with the executives in question detailing how they got to where they are and doling out life advice.

Further episodes will move to Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET, and the program will run for 12 weeks, reports Business Insider.

The idea grew out of Rubenstein’s known interviewing prowess in both business and politics. During his tenure as the Economic Club of Washington, DC president, he changed a function of his job — introducing quarterly speakers — from interviews into Q&As. Speaking opportunities followed for Rubenstein, including interviewing an American historian for a private event with Congress he hosts.

With this show, he believes his connections to his subjects will allow them “to be more candid,” reports Business Insider. Rubenstein also “doesn’t claim to be a journalist.” Nine months ago, the CEO of Bloomberg Media Justin Smith went to Rubenstein to talk about a show. Smith looked at it “as an experiment,” he told Business Insider. “The name of the game in media and in any business is to do things that are really different and innovative.”

The Carlyle Group has put money in companies that the government largely impacts, according to Investopedia, which echoes Rubenstein’s background in law and politics. It raised a $671 million for an IPO back in 2012. Now, the group manages $176 billion in assets.

The group’s holdings span an array of industries, like consumer and retail, energy and power and health care. These investments include Nixon Inc., Philadelphia Energy Solutions and Hoffmaster Group, Inc.
