“I really regret doing this,” Hillary Clinton says to Zach Galifianakis three minutes into her appearance on the Funny or Die talk show ” Between Two Ferns.”
In a likely bid to win over younger voters, the Democratic presidential candidate sat down with the actor from “The Hangover” and “Birdman” to discuss her campaign Thursday, and the appearance was rife with humorously awkward moments.
“Ferns” is notorious for making its guests — which have included Justin Bieber, Natalie Portman and President Barack Obama — deeply uncomfortable, or at least appear that way. Clinton’s appearance was no different.
“Critics have questioned some of your decision-making recently, and by you doing this show, I hope it finally lays that to rest,” Galifianakis said.
“Oh, I think it absolutely proves their case, don’t you?” Clinton responded.
Galifianakis went on to pose several ridiculous questions to Clinton, including: “Are you excited to be the first girl president?” “How does President Obama like his coffee? Like himself? Weak?” and “Are you down with TPP?” to which, he said, Clinton was supposed to respond with “Yeah, you know me,” and when she refused, he said: “Fine, lose. Then the country goes to s—t.”
“I’d love to meet the person who makes your pantsuits,” Galifianakis told Clinton. “Because for Halloween I wanted to go as a librarian from outer space.”
The host also interrupted the interview to play a Donald Trump ad. When Clinton asked why he would do a thing like that, Galifianakis said, “He paid me in steaks.”
Clinton responded: “I’d be afraid to eat them if I were you.”
Clinton’s appearance currently has an overwhelming approval rate among those who weighed in with an opinion, with more than 80 percent choosing “funny” over “die” as a reaction to the clip on the Funny or Die website.
