You Could Soon Swim with Your iPhone (AAPL)

Taking your iPhone for a dip in the pool might not be the end of the world anymore, if this latest iPhone 7 rumor pans out.

Quartz reports that Apple (ticker: AAPL) was awarded a patent that “outlines a system for color-balancing photos shot underwater.” So, it’s easy to jump to the conclusion that the next iPhone could account for the new technology. None of Apple’s phones are waterproof, though that hasn’t stopped third parties from making waterproof cases.

Quartz also notes another key piece of the puzzle. If Apple indeed removes its classic headphone jack from the iPhone 7, it’s one less place for water to damage the phone.

Apple’s move would align with other smartphone maker Samsung Electronics, whose signature smartphones the Galaxy S7, S7 Edge and the Note 7 are indeed water-resistant, reports Quartz. For what it’s worth, they can also be used with regular headphones.

The iPhone 7 rumors continue to swirl around the Internet every day as Apple gears up for yet another one of its (in)famous presentations. AAPL‘s stock price has ticked up about 3.8 percent on the year, though more notably shot up 6.5 percent following a better-than-expected earnings report.
