Under Armour (UA) Created a Shoe for Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson

Apparel company Under Armour (ticker: UA) is adding quite the eponymous wrestler-turned-actor to its roster of athletes.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson now has a signature shoe with the company that will come out in early 2017, reports Fox Sports. He shared the news in an Instagram (FB) post. The company has many well-known athlete endorsements including Stephen Curry, Cam Newton, Lindsey Vonn, Jordan Spieth, Bryce Harper, Misty Copeland and more.

UA is making serious headway in the endorsement battle with Nike (NKE), whose stable of athletes most notably feature Lebron James, Michael Jordan, Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods. The company anticipates increasing these sponsorship deals.

It might be a smart idea for Nike, considering Under Armour‘s increasing battle for dominance in sports apparel. Nike recently said it would discontinue sales of its golf equipment and instead focus its attention to golf shoe and sportswear expansion.

Under Armour’s stock is down approximately 4.5 percent so far this year, though Nike’s has fallen more than 10 percent. Growth in this market can be found in Adidas; its stock is up 65.5 percent as of Aug. 5.

Whether these types of deals will secure Under Armour’s future success remains to be seen, though exposure from someone as widely popular as “The Rock” should keep people’s attention — which is often half the battle.
