WASHINGTON — Montgomery County police are investigating a fatal crash that killed a 72-year-old man and closed a stretch of Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring for several hours Wednesday.
Police say a Cadillac and a work truck were traveling north on Georgia Avenue when the car hit the rear of the truck just before 10:30 a.m. The Cadillac crossed the median and came to a stop in the southbound lanes of Georgia Avenue near Hathaway Drive.
Investigators don’t know why the Cadillac hit the truck.
Police have not released the name of the Cadillac driver, who was killed in the crash.
Georgia Avenue was closed in both directions between Hathaway Drive and Kayson Street until after 3p.m. Officials had hoped to reopen the road by the afternoon commute.
In the meantime, drivers can use Connecticut Avenue or Layhill Road as alternates.
