WASHINGTON — The Intercounty Connector from I-270 to I-95 is about to reach U.S. Route 1 in Laurel.
Beginning Friday night, work crews will put the finishing touches on the final section of the toll highway. At the same time, crews will begin to open the I-95 Konterra Drive interchange, formerly Contee Road. Both should be available for Monday morning’s rush hour.
The ICC segment is a mile and a half long, and the off-peak toll for two-axle vehicles for the new stretch is 40 cents. From I-370 to U.S. 1, it’s $3.55.
But the toll rates could change if Maryland’s governor-elect has his way. During the campaign, Larry Hogan backed a proposal to cut ICC tolls for all drivers.
The Konterra Drive interchange, between the ICC and Route 198, will provide quicker access to Laurel Regional Hospital.
Weekend drivers should be ready for new traffic patterns and use caution in the area while crews are working.
