WASHINGTON — Companies are coming up with ways for customers to contribute to charity without opening their wallets.
Good Search, which contributes a small amount to the charity of a user’s choice every time he looks for something, has already donated $11,000 to charity since its inception, according to the company.
With the holidays around the corner, here’s a site to keep in mind: Mashable.com reports that Goodshop, which is run by Good Search, works with more than 5,000 retailers, including big ones such as Sephora and Best Buy.
By shopping through an extension installed on the Chrome browser, a percentage of the purchase is donated to the cause of the shopper’s choice.
Tab for a Cause helps raise money for a chosen charity choose every time a new tab is opened. But Google’s Chrome browser must be used and the extension installed, which only takes a few clicks. Tab for a Cause then collects ad revenue from banner ads on each newly opened tab.
Finally, Smile Always redirects every Amazon.com product link to a link for Amazon Smile. Install it once and 0.5 percent of the company’s cut is donated for free every time you shop.
