South Capitol Street Bridge to close for testing

WASHINGTON (AP) — District of Columbia transportation officials say the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge will be closed for a few hours this weekend for routine testing.

Officials say the bridge, also called the South Capitol Street Bridge, will be closed on Sunday from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m.

Transportation officials say the bridge, which carries traffic over the Anacostia River, will be closed so officials can test the part of the bridge that can be swung open to allow water traffic to pass. Crews will test the swing span to ensure it is operating properly.

Officials say motorists should use alternate routes during that time.
