NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — The Navy is preparing to hold a ceremony honoring the victims of the 2000 attack on the USS Cole.
The guided-missile destroyer was attacked a small boat laden with explosives during a brief refueling stop in Yemen.
The terrorist attack killed 17 members of the ship’s crew, wounded 39 others and seriously damaged the ship. A ceremony honoring the victims will be held at the ship’s homeport at Naval Station Norfolk in Virginia on Sunday, the bombing’s anniversary.
The ship is currently deployed to the Black Sea as part of a routine deployment.
